OAuth
OAuth is an internet standard for delegated authorization. It lets a service access resources on another server on the owner's behalf, without requiring the user to give the third party their credentials for that server.

In business automation
OAuth lets you connect an application with specific permissions without giving it the user's password. Define the permissions required and plan for access to be revoked or expire.
Examples
These examples illustrate a possible workflow. Adapt the connections and rules to your own systems.
Business process example
An administrator connects the CRM account to an automation and approves permission to read contacts. The process can search, but writing a record requires the appropriate permission and should not bypass the restriction.
Relevant tools
- Nango
- Manage OAuth connections and tokens for integrations; permissions are also determined by the target service.
What to check
- Distinguish user sign-in from authorization to act on their behalf. Store tokens in a credential manager, not in a spreadsheet.
