WordPress: development features and setup
WordPress is an open-source site management system with a REST API for site data. It can be used as a publishing destination and as a data source in an automated workflow.
Tool by the Otomatzia editorial team · source content checked on
Overview
The interface exchanges JSON data and lets an external application work with site content according to its permissions. For example, an editorial system can create a draft ready for review instead of requiring someone to copy a headline and text manually. This does not eliminate the need for editing: automated publishing should distinguish between a draft, approved content, and content that has already been published, and retain an identifier to prevent duplicates.
Features
- REST API for reading and writing content data
- JSON structure for integration with external apps
- Extendable through plugins and custom code
Business uses
- Prepare article drafts from an approved content library
- Sync content items to a business website from an internal system
Getting started
- Check which API resources are available on the specific site
- Create a dedicated authorization with only the necessary capabilities
- Publish a test draft and check images, links, and text direction
What to check
- Plugins may change fields and permissions; check against the actual site
- Separate draft creation from publishing approval so a source error does not go live
