Overview
The Claude API is designed to make language capabilities a step within a system managed by developers. The system determines what context is sent, how the response is interpreted, and what happens if there is no useful answer. For example, when classifying requests, return only recognized categories and provide a path for cases that do not fit any of them. The integration should also include a timeout, failure handling, and cost checks, since the end user does not manually retry the request from the Claude app.
Features
- Access to Claude models in development workflows
- Text and context processing for knowledge tasks
- Options for building AI behavior into a system
Business uses
- Classifying requests by handling type before routing them to a queue
- Generating a draft from procedures provided to the model by the system
Getting started
- Define sample input and output, then test a single request in a development environment with mock data.
- Send sample requests and restrict in code the categories the system will accept, including a case that cannot be classified.
- Test a missing response or failed request and verify that the request is saved for follow-up instead of being sent to the wrong queue.
What to check
- A Claude app subscription does not replace checking API access and usage-based billing.
- Add output validation and an approval gate before the model changes information or sends anything to a customer.
