Long-running agents beyond prompt engineering
On August 31, 2026 Andrew Green writes that designing an agent as "context engineering" still leaves the model to verify itself, which adds hallucinations. A model produces text; an agent is the execution layer. Running out of tokens in the middle of JSON is a model event with agent damage: a broken tool call. Context compaction should be a function the harness runs on its own schedule, not a decision the agent makes mid-task. Every prompt resends the entire history.
