In business automation

Terraform is a specific tool for infrastructure as code: cloud resources are written in HCL or JSON, and a plan is run before making actual changes. In automation, it is used when you need to document who created a queue, network, or permission, instead of leaving that to manual clicks in a console.

Examples

These examples illustrate a possible workflow. Adapt the connections and rules to your own systems.

Create a webhook queue in two environments

A Terraform file defines a message queue, a service user, and publish permissions. A plan is run to see which resources will be created, and only then is it approved. The test environment gets separate resource names so it cannot delete the live queue.

Relevant tools

Vercel
Some resources are managed in the project interface. Terraform is useful for resources around the deployment, not as a replacement for every application setting.

What to check

  • An infrastructure file containing secrets may be exposed whenever the repository is copied.
