Infrastructure as code
Infrastructure as code (IaC) is the process of managing and provisioning computing data-center resources using machine-readable configuration files rather than physical hardware configuration or interactive configuration tools. The IT infrastructure managed through this process includes both physical equipment, such as bare-metal servers, and virtual machines, along with related configuration resources.

In business automation
Infrastructure as code describes servers, networks, and permissions in configuration files that can be version-controlled. In automation, this makes it possible to recreate an execution environment instead of clicking through a cloud interface each time.
Examples
These examples illustrate a possible workflow. Adapt the connections and rules to your own systems.
Recreating a workflow environment
The team describes the message queue, read permissions, and webhook address in a version-controlled file. A test environment is built from the same file. A manual change in the cloud interface is treated as an exception until it is added back to the code.

- Vercel
- Project and environment settings can be managed as code; secrets still belong in the environment variable system, not in a public file.
What to check
- Infrastructure code without external secrets and change review can accidentally deploy overly broad permissions.
