Agent (AI agent)

An AI agent is an artificial intelligence system that can respond to requests, make decisions, and perform real-world tasks. It uses a large language model to interpret input and choose how to process a request using the information and resources available to it.

In business automation

An AI agent chooses actions from the tools configured for it, rather than only drafting a response. It is suitable for tasks where the path varies according to the data; a simple, fixed process does not have to become an agent.

Examples

These examples illustrate a possible workflow. Adapt the connections and rules to your own systems.

Business process example

A request to schedule an appointment arrives in free-form language. The agent identifies the service, checks availability, and offers times. Only after the user selects one does it use a tool to schedule the appointment and save the returned ID.

What to check

  • Define what the agent is allowed to do and when approval is required. An instruction in text alone is no substitute for permissions on the tool.
