OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs and migrate creators to Plugins
OpenAI's help center has published an FAQ on the retirement of Custom GPTs. The company recommends Plugins as the replacement: reusable instructions together with connected apps. For Enterprise workspaces the plan is: an admin notice on September 11, 2026, a conversion target of September 17, an end to creating new GPTs planned for September 25, and retirement on December 11, 2026, when Custom GPTs stop running. The change applies to all ChatGPT plans; other plans may follow the same timeline with in-product notices. Existing GPTs remain usable until retirement. Custom actions are not carried over automatically in the conversion.
