Can you get into Claude Duet, and what did our early access show?

Claude Duet early access is documented as a research preview with a waitlist for Pro and Max plans and US accounts only Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Our phone shows the app in Google Play early access testing, but how our account got there is unverified, so this guide treats it as an observation, not a way in.

Anthropic announced Duet on October 21, 2026 Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. This guide keeps three levels of evidence apart: what Anthropic states, what a reviewer reported, and what our own screens show. Each claim says which level it belongs to.

At Tiger Media we installed the app through Google Play testing and opened it. We have not used it on real business tasks yet, and nothing here claims we have.

What Claude Duet is and how it works

This section is Anthropic's own description from the launch announcement; we have not verified it. Anthropic describes Duet as an app where Claude acts as a proactive agent: it surfaces what needs your attention, completes tasks you assign and works in the background Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. It aims the app at professionals and small business owners and builds it around Claude Opus 5.5 Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.

Anthropic says Duet is a standalone app on iOS and Android and also on claude.ai, separate from the main Claude app for now Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Anthropic says it sends a morning brief and checks connected accounts every few hours, messaging you only when something needs attention Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.

Anthropic says you can assign tasks from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, forecasts, prototypes and web apps Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. It also says background work runs on a virtual machine with its own browser, so your phone or laptop does not need to be on Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026, and that Duet carries over memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account and uses one ongoing thread, by typing or voice Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. These descriptions come from a single vendor source, and we have not tested them.

What our Google Play tester screens show

Two screens from our phone show the Google Play side. The tester page says "You are a tester", says an update can take a while to arrive, and says you can leave the testing program at any time. It also says certain data on your use of the app is collected and shared with the developer.

The listing is titled "Claude Duet (Early Access)", published by Anthropic PBC, 18 MB, rated PEGI 3, with 500+ downloads and in-app purchases. It carries the note "This app is in development". We cropped our account details out of both screens.

Anthropic's help article does not mention Google Play testing Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. These are observations from our own phone. They show a tester status and a store listing, not how access was granted, and not how the agent behaves.

How the official waitlist and sign in work

The documented path starts on Anthropic's waitlist. Access is tied to the email address you give there, and it must match your Claude account and the Google or Apple account on your phone; invitations go out in waves with no guaranteed date Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Follow the steps below as the help article lists them Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.

Our first launch showed a welcome screen with a "Research preview" badge and a sign in with a Claude account, by Google or by email.

  • Join the waitlist on the Claude Duet product page.
  • Enter your name, email, plan and phone type.
  • Optionally describe your work.
  • Wait for the invitation email.
  • Open the invitation on your phone and follow the iPhone or Android steps.
  • Sign in with your Claude account.

What our first onboarding card shows, and the demos we can cite

After sign in, the first of six onboarding cards reads "24/7 proactive help that keeps tasks moving" and shows a clock face with a "Finished your report" card. That card is as far as this guide goes into the app.

Anthropic's official launch video on the Claude YouTube channel runs 1 minute 39 seconds and includes short comments from early users Claude official YouTube channel, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. It is embedded below.

Chris Flores posted a Duet onboarding video on X on October 22, 2026, with the line "Claude Duet onboarding in case you're curious" Chris Flores on X, October 2026. We link it as a public post credited to its author. It is not a test of ours, and it is not an endorsement. We do not re-host it.

Which tasks should stay in fixed workflows, and which could you evaluate with Duet?

A fixed workflow, in this guide, is one where you define the trigger and the steps yourself. Our pages on Make and n8n cover tools that build them. Anthropic describes Duet differently: it checks connected accounts every few hours and messages you when something needs attention Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026, and it decides what to do for tasks you assign Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.

The sections below are hypotheses to test, not findings. Routine, rule based steps, such as adding a form entry to a CRM, are the kind of work you can already inspect step by step in a fixed workflow. Judgment tasks, such as deciding which of many threads needs attention first, are the kind of work Anthropic describes Duet taking on, and also where it says Duet may misjudge urgency Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.

To choose between tools in general, read choosing an automation platform. Once something is running, maintaining automations covers who owns it.

What Anthropic says Duet asks you to approve

Every row below is a statement from Anthropic, taken from the announcement and the help article. The approval rules are single-source: we have not observed them. The last column names who decides, using Anthropic's own word "you".

What to check before connecting business email

This list helps you prepare. It does not say that connecting business email is safe.

Anthropic says Duet never directly sees passwords or sign in tokens and that the service was red teamed, penetration tested by an external firm and covered by a public bug bounty Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.

It also says the strictest tier of sensitive data is blocked and that health and personal finance information is shared only when you explicitly instruct it Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Those are single-source Anthropic claims from the October 21, 2026 announcement.

We have not tested them, and the same announcement says more safety details would follow Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. We do not know whether they have been published since.

What the vendor states, what a reviewer saw and what is untested

Three evidence levels sit in the table below. Every's Dan Shipper wrote after about two weeks of early access that Duet is the first personal agent he would call a pro tool Every, Vibe Check Duet, accessed October 2026. Every's later observations come from one review: Duet can see Claude sessions on your computers but cannot direct them, its email drafts are weaker than those of another assistant it compared, scheduled runs cannot reach custom connectors and voice is transcription only Every, Vibe Check Duet, accessed October 2026. Every states that Anthropic had no input on the review Every, Vibe Check Duet, accessed October 2026.

TestingCatalog repeats the waitlist, Opus 5.5 and approval details and notes Duet may misread threads or rank urgency poorly TestingCatalog, Claude Duet preview, accessed October 2026. That is a repeat of the launch account, not an independent test of behavior.

Limits, shared usage and cost during the preview

Anthropic says Duet is included in Pro and Max plans and shares their usage limits Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. The help article says it is included at no extra cost during the preview and uses your five hour and weekly limits, including background work such as the morning brief Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Anthropic adds that larger tasks, such as financial models or decks, need more model turns and use more Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.

The help article says admitted users get one full usage limit reset, available until November 30, 2026 Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026, and that you cannot choose the model: Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and sets effort per job Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Both are single-source statements from Anthropic, and we have not tested them. Our Play listing shows an in-app purchases flag, which is a store label, not a price. The no extra cost line is the help center's statement about the preview, not a promise about later.

Plan your first evaluation with the worksheet

Keep a first test small, and decide its rules in advance. Download the Claude Duet business evaluation worksheet (CSV). Each row holds a task, an expected result, an evidence basis, inherited account context reviewed, a connection, requested permissions, permitted data, required approval, an approval owner, a stop condition, and blank fields for what you observed.

The sample row is hypothetical and has no observed result. One chosen connection does not show that your account is limited to that connection, because Anthropic says Duet carries over memory, skills and connected apps Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026, a single-source claim we have not tested. Record that context before you start.

For the habits around any automation, see the first automation checklist.

  • Choose one task you can describe in a sentence, with an expected result written first.
  • Choose one connection, and list the other apps and memory that Duet can still reach.
  • Write the permissions you grant and the data you allow.
  • Name who approves requests, using the approval acts Anthropic lists Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.
  • Write the stop condition before the first request.
  • After the test, fill in what you observed and what failed, then decide what to do next.

What our screens do not prove

Our four screens are the tester page, the store listing, the sign in screen and the first onboarding card. They do not show how access was granted to our account. They do not show our plan or country, and this guide does not state them. They do not show that the agent is usable, or anything about how it behaves.

They also do not tell you what happens to Duet access if you leave the Play testing program. The page says you can leave at any time, and nothing we saw says more.

If you have a defined automation project and want help scoping it, you can send it through the request form.

Questions owners ask before connecting an account

The answers below stay within what Anthropic documents and what our own screens show.

Can I use Claude Duet if I am not in the US?

The documented eligibility is Pro and Max plans and US accounts only Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. No non US path is described in the sources we read. Check Anthropic's current waitlist terms, because a research preview can change.

Is Claude Duet different from a Make or n8n workflow?

Anthropic describes Duet as deciding what needs attention and acting in the background, while a fixed workflow follows steps you set. We have not tested that difference. The earlier section on fixed workflows treats it as a hypothesis to evaluate.

What will it ask me to approve?

Anthropic says Duet asks before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting anything Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. The table above lists these as Anthropic's statements, which we have not observed.

Is it safe to connect my business email?

This guide gives no verdict. Anthropic makes safety claims in its announcement Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026, and says Duet carries over memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Review that inherited context first, and follow the pre flight list above.

Does it cost extra?

During the preview, the help article says it is included at no extra cost and uses your plan limits Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026. Our listing's in-app purchases flag is a store label, not a price.

What happens if I leave the testing program?

The Play tester page says you can leave at any time. What happens to Duet access afterward is not documented in anything we read.

What is established and what still needs testing

  • Established by Anthropic's own statements: Duet is a research preview announced on October 21, 2026 Anthropic, Introducing Claude Duet, accessed October 2026, with a US waitlist for Pro and Max Claude Help Center, Get started with Claude Duet, accessed October 2026.
  • Established by our screens: a Google Play tester page, an early access listing, a research preview sign in and a first onboarding card.
  • Stated by Anthropic but untested by us: the approval rules, the safeguards and the connector list.
  • Not established: how our account got access, and how Duet performs on a real business task.
  • We plan to publish what we learn from hands-on testing in a follow up guide in the coming days.
