Proxy server

A proxy server, also known in Hebrew as an intermediary server, primarily provides fast access to external resources on a computer network. It can conceal an IP address by routing all internet connections through the proxy server: data is sent to it and then to the server, and back through it to the user.

In business automation

A proxy server mediates between a client and a destination: it can hide an address, filter requests, and cache data. In automation, it can serve as an organization's outbound gateway or as an access layer for external sites.

Examples

These examples illustrate a possible workflow. Adapt the connections and rules to your own systems.

Controlled access to an external service

An internal process calls a supplier's API through a corporate proxy. Only approved addresses are allowed, and requests are logged. An attempt to call a different address is blocked even if the workflow was configured incorrectly.

Relevant tools

n8n
HTTP nodes can route traffic through the environment's proxy; check the allowlist of destinations instead of relying on an open default.

What to check

  • A proxy without internal authentication becomes a bypass route if anyone on the network can use it.
