In business automation

A database stores records in an organized way for retrieval and updates. In automation, it is the source of truth for a client, order, or task record, unlike a temporary spreadsheet or chat conversation.

Examples

These examples illustrate a possible workflow. Adapt the connections and rules to your own systems.

Updating an order status

A process receives a payment and writes the status to the order database using a stable identifier. The customer notification is sent only after the write succeeds. A write failure does not count as a completed payment in the system.

Relevant tools

Supabase
A Postgres database with role-based permissions; you still need to plan unique keys and safe repeatable updates.

What to check

  • Two processes writing to the same record without a lock or idempotency can overwrite its status.
