Google Sheets as an automation data store: uses and limits

Why many first automations start in Google Sheets, how the Sheets API is used, and when to move to a real database.

Why teams start here

Sheets is familiar, shareable and supported by most automation platforms. It works well as a visible log of leads, requests or tasks while a process is still being designed.

How automations use it

Platforms read and write rows through the Google Sheets API. Keep a fixed header row and stable column names, because many integrations map fields by header.

Limits to plan for

The API enforces request quotas, and a spreadsheet offers no unique constraints or row locking. Two automations writing to the same sheet at once can create duplicates or overwrite each other.

When you need guaranteed uniqueness, high volume or concurrent writers, move the data to a database or a CRM and keep Sheets as a report.
