How Third Moment Research runs 10,000 agents for 36+ hours

OpenAI describes how Third Moment Research builds an agent system that improves with use: Codex with GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6.1 Sol runs up to 10,000 agents in parallel in investigations lasting 36 to 48 hours, with sub-agents running in parallel. In a financial example, Codex cut a backtest from 3 hours to about 3 to 5 minutes using caching and memory compression (a reduction of about 97% in time). The agents run in the Codex harness inside Docker with data and documentation, and the outer harness decides whether to retry, stop or hand off to a person when a task remains open. To secure the environment they use Daybreak for automated penetration tests before launching simulations, and in one case they processed about a trillion OpenAI tokens in a single day.
