Previewing the Model Hardware Standard
On August 27, 2026 Anthropic opens a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard with the first labs and factories. MHS is a shared specification for agents that operate microscopes, liquid handlers and robotic arms in parallel. Development began with HHMI Janelia. The specification is model-agnostic and works with any device that has a programming interface, including access via MCP. The goal is open source after the research preview, with physical safety evaluations.
