Manage AI agents as first-class identities before they wipe production
On September 8, 2026, Geektime (in partnership with TeraWorks/Okta) publishes a guide by Eyal Mendel on managing AI agents as First-Class Identities. According to a cited Okta study, in 2024 91% of organizations used agents and only 10% reported a strategy for non-human identities. The approach requires a human owner, lifecycle, permissions, monitoring and a Kill Switch, and three questions: where the agents are (including Shadow AI), which systems they connect to (MCP, SaaS, APIs with short-lived tokens), and what they can do in real time. It cites an April 2026 case of a coding agent that deleted a production database and backups without any external attack. The date on the page is September 8, 2026.
