Building effective agent automations
Anthropic published, in a developer guide, a reference implementation for an agent automation that runs on a schedule on Claude Managed Agents (beta). The agent reads sources you define, such as Slack channels and GitHub repositories, tracks what has changed since the previous run and posts a short summary, for example in Slack. Setup is done in configuration files via the ant apply command, and you can also run a command in Claude Code that sets up the agent for you. Credentials are kept in a vault outside the sandbox, and the run executes on Anthropic's infrastructure with nothing needing to run on your side. The guide sums up six rules against common failures: read each source from a timestamp bookmark rather than a fixed window, report a failed read as a problem rather than a quiet day, recheck each item right before posting, count a post as sent only after confirmation from Slack, reread the preferences on every run from a repository the agent cannot edit, and give read-only access and a per-run spending cap.
