How Block is building AI-powered security with OpenAI technology
OpenAI describes how Block's security team (Square, Cash App, Afterpay) uses OpenAI Defense Factory and Daybreak to discover, identify and respond to vulnerabilities. A proposed detection change was tested against seven months of telemetry in under an hour, and in red team exercises the time from submission of a high-severity vulnerability to an automatically proposed patch reached 18 minutes. The system takes about 600 analyst hours per quarter off false-alert triage and performs about 1,100 investigation hours per quarter, with an increase of about 50% in triage and investigation throughput. The harness routes tasks to the appropriate model and keeps human approval before fixes are deployed to sensitive systems.
