Anthropic unveils Claude Duet, a proactive AI agent that works in the background
Geektime reports that Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app in which Claude works as a proactive agent built around Claude Opus 5.5. Instead of waiting for commands, it sends a short morning brief on the most important items in your connected accounts and messages you during the day only when something needs attention. You can hand it tasks such as managing calendar and email, building dashboards, forecasts, prototypes and web apps, and it can use more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail, Slack, Stripe, HubSpot, Shopify and Canva. It carries over the memory, skills and connected apps already in your Claude account, runs in one ongoing thread by text or voice, and has its own virtual machine with a browser, so it keeps working when your devices are off. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows the action and waits for approval, and some actions such as trading securities are blocked entirely. Business purchases go through Stripe's Link with a virtual card, and Shop Pay is supported too. For now access is limited to US Pro and Max subscribers through a waitlist, and usage counts against the regular plan limits, which is why it checks connected accounts every few hours.
