OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra, a cheaper and faster model built for computer use and high-volume automation

OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Terra, a fast and efficient model that combines detailed visual reasoning with precise computer use, meaning it works inside software the way a person does. OpenAI says its API prices are 50% lower than those of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol, which makes high-volume automation practical, for example reading incoming invoices and entering their details into accounting software. On Agents' Last Exam, a benchmark of professional computer-use tasks, Terra at medium reasoning effort scored 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at about one third of the cost, and it completes tasks more than three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. On Terminal-Bench 4.0 for coding agents it solved 50.3% of tasks, up from 21.5% for the previous version, though OpenAI says Sol and Astra remain the better choice for the most complex coding work. OpenAI also reports strong resistance in its prompt-injection tests. The model is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and in the API as gpt-6.1-terra at $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.
