Introducing the Agents API
On September 10, 2026, OpenAI introduces the Agents API in public beta. You can build a cloud agent with a single API call that specifies a model, tools (including MCP), an environment and a task input. OpenAI hosts the harness that powers Codex: long context, tool use, parallel subagents, and a managed sandbox or your own infrastructure.
